SYMPOSIUM ON ASSISTIVE DEVICES DAY

Theme: Unlock The Everyday

Date: 11th June 2025

Location: Muhimbili National Hospital, Ummy Mwalimu Hall

Rehab Health and Kyaro Assistive Technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), are organizing a Symposium to mark the World Day for Assistive Technology (AT). This global day raises awareness about the importance of assistive technology in building inclusive societies and calls for collective action to improve access, innovation, and availability.

The symposium will bring together key stakeholders including policymakers, service providers, development partners, users, researchers, manufacturers and innovators to raise awareness on the availability, use, and importance of assistive technology, identify gaps and opportunities within the assistive devices landscape in the bid to strengthen assistive technology systems in Tanzania.

The objectives of the symposium are to:

  • Facilitate dialogue between stakeholders to strengthen assistive technology systems in Tanzania.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities within the assistive devices landscape.
  • Strengthen partnerships for sustainable and scalable solutions in assistive device provision.
  • Discuss key areas for the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Assistive Technology (2024–2029).
  • Raise awareness of availability of AT to the general public.

This symposium aligns with the global movement led by ATscale – the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology(https://unlocktheeveryday.org/world-at-day-2025/ ), which promotes the World Day for Assistive Technology (AT). The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical importance of assistive technology and advocating for equitable access worldwide.

By participating in this global observance, Tanzania joins other countries in committing to inclusive innovation, accessibility, and strengthening assistive technology systems in line with ATscale’s mission and the WHO Global Report on Assistive Technology
